Francesco Marino

Dr. Francesco Marino is a postdoctoral researcher in theoretical nuclear physics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU), working in the research group of Professor Sonia Bacca since January 2024 as part of the PRISMA+ Cluster of Excellence focused on fundamental physics research.

Dr. Marino earned his PhD from the University of Milano, where he specialized in nuclear matter studies using ab-initio computational techniques.

His research develops ab-initio frameworks to model atomic nuclei from constituent nucleons and nuclear forces, with primary focus on electromagnetic responses of exotic nuclei that exhibit significant neutron-proton imbalances. These investigations provide critical insights into nuclear structure and enable extrapolation to nuclear matter properties essential for neutron star modeling. Dr. Marino actively collaborates with experimental groups at TU Darmstadt and leverages high-performance computing resources including the MOGON supercomputer for complex simulations requiring substantial computational power.

As a member of the PRISMA+ Cluster of Excellence, Dr. Marino contributes to theoretical nuclear physics research within JGU's physics ecosystem while maintaining strong experimental collaborations with TU Darmstadt, utilizing advanced computational infrastructure to address multi-scale challenges from subatomic particles to astrophysical phenomena.
