معرفی
Francesco Fournier-Facio is a mathematician holding dual academic appointments at the University of Cambridge as a Herchel-Smith Fellow at the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (DPMMS) within the School of Physical Sciences, and as a Henslow Fellow of the Cambridge Philosophical Society based at Wolfson College. He serves as a Governing Body Fellow and Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College.
His educational background includes a Bachelors degree from EPFL in Lausanne, followed by Masters and PhD studies at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, where he worked under Alessandra Iozzi.
Fournier-Facio's research centers on group theory—the mathematical study of symmetry—with work spanning algebra, geometry, topology, and dynamics. His research program focuses on two interconnected areas: bounded cohomology and its applications to geometric topology and rigidity theory, and metric approximations of groups with particular attention to stability properties. His approach exemplifies geometric group theory, using geometric interpretations to understand algebraic structures.
His recent publication output includes a significant 81-page paper on torsion-free Tarski monsters, reflecting his work at the intersection of model theory and geometric group theory. This research contributes to understanding fundamental properties of infinite groups with unusual structural characteristics.
Fournier-Facio is currently seeking fellowship or tenure-track positions to begin by autumn 2026, indicating an active career trajectory in academic mathematics.
