Francesco Capuano

Francesco Capuano is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fluid Mechanics at the School of Engineering of Barcelona East (EEBE), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). He is a member of the GReCEF (Research Group in Science and Fluid Engineering) and also associated with CER-H2, the Hydrogen Research Center at UPC. His work spans fundamental fluid dynamics and applied biomedical research, with numerous publications and active collaborations.

Dr. Capuano's research focuses on Computational Fluid Dynamics, Turbulence, Cardiovascular Flows, and Numerical Methods. His work bridges fundamental fluid mechanics with practical applications in environmental science and biomedical engineering. He has made significant contributions to understanding turbulence effects on biofilm growth and microplastic aggregation in ocean environments, as well as developing advanced computational methods for simulating cardiovascular flows.

His recent publications show a strong trend toward interdisciplinary research, particularly at the intersection of fluid dynamics and biomedical applications. He has published extensively on cardiovascular flows using advanced imaging techniques like 4D flow MRI, while also maintaining a strong foundation in fundamental turbulence research. His work on ocean microplastics has gained significant attention, connecting fluid dynamics with environmental concerns.

Dr. Capuano has received research funding through competitive projects including the "PLAN ESTATAL DE INVESTIGACIÓN CIENTÍFICA Y TÉCNICA Y DE INNOVACIÓN 2024-2027" and has been involved in industrial doctorate programs. His collaborations span multiple institutions, with frequent co-authorship with researchers from UPC, George Washington University, and other international institutions.

He is actively involved with the GReCEF research group, which focuses on computational fluid dynamics, turbulence modeling, and biomedical applications of fluid mechanics.
