Francesca Forno is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Trento's Department of Sociology and Social Research, and an Associate Professor at the Center Agriculture Food Environment (C3A). She holds national qualifications for Full Professorship in three academic sectors: General Sociology, Political Sociology/Sociology of Law, and Sociology of Cultural Processes. Her academic career includes prior positions as Assistant Professor at the University of Bergamo (2005–2016) and adjunct/lecturer roles at Urbino University.
Her research explores civic participation, social movements, sustainable consumption, food governance, and eco-social innovation. Methodologically, she combines qualitative (ethnography, interviews) and quantitative approaches to study societal transformations. Key interests include political consumerism, solidarity economies, food systems, and community resilience.
She leads major research projects including SURFIT (EU-funded), MAKING FOOD DEMOCRACY (PRIN PNRR), and FOOdIVERSE (ERA-NET). She co-founded the research unit CoACT (Collective Action Change and Transition) and collaborates with institutions like the University of Palermo.
