Francesca Bellino is Associate Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the Department of Asia, Africa and Mediterranean, Università degli Studi di Napoli "L'Orientale". She teaches multiple courses including Arabic Literature I & II and Arabic Language II across various degree programs in Oriental and African Languages, Comparative Languages, and Euro-Mediterranean Communication.
Her educational background includes a degree in Semitic Philology from the University of Turin (2001) and a PhD from the University of Florence (2005) focusing on legendary Islamic literature. She has conducted extensive research in Islamic cosmography, Arabic popular literature, and adab traditions, with notable work on al-Qazwini's Wonders of Creation.
Her research interests center on pre-modern Islamic textual culture, particularly the natural world in 7th-15th century Arabic texts, manuscript traditions, and knowledge transmission systems. She has developed expertise through fieldwork across the Arab and Islamic world and collaborations with major research institutions.
Her recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate consistent focus on medieval Arabic textual traditions, with particular attention to lexical development, manuscript studies, and adab literature evolution. Key themes include Islamic cosmography, Mamluk/Ottoman prose, and the transmission of knowledge through encyclopedic works.

Bellino serves on editorial boards for Oriente Moderno, Al-ʻUsur al-Wusta, Kervan, and Quaderni di Studi Arabi. She coordinates the PRIN project "Islamic Literatures in Sub-Saharan Africa" and has organized public engagement events including the "Father&Son" talk with artist Akram Zaatari. Her research utilizes the Paul E. Kahle Archive at the University of Turin, where she previously managed the archive (2015-2016).
