Frances Mary D'Andrea is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Leading at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Education. Her expertise spans literacy issues for students with visual impairments, Braille education, and special needs pedagogy. Prior to her academic role, she served as an educational consultant, adjunct instructor, and teacher for students with visual impairments since 1982. She contributed to establishing the American Foundation for the Blind's (AFB) National Literacy Center (1995–2005) and currently chairs the Braille Authority of North America's (BANA) General Committee on UEB.
Dr. D'Andrea holds a PhD and has authored/co-authored notable works such as Ashcroft Programmed Instruction in Braille: Unified English Braille and The Braille Enthusiast’s Dictionary. She is actively involved in national and international workshops, task forces, and committees focused on advancing education for visually impaired students. Her professional service includes leadership roles in BANA and AFB.
