Folkert Haanstra

Folkert Haanstra is a Professor of Arts and Cultural Education at the Amsterdam University of the Arts (2002-2016) and held a special appointment professorship in Cultural Education and Cultural Participation at Utrecht University (2001-2015). His research focuses on arts education, creativity, and the impact of cultural participation, particularly in museums, music schools, and visual/performance arts contexts.

Education: PhD in Psychology (1994, University of Amsterdam), studies in Psychology (University of Groningen) and Fine Art/Design (Minerva Art Academy). He conducted foundational research on learning effects in visual arts education through meta-analyses. Currently involved in the NRO review study examining factors influencing learning achievements in arts/culture education in primary schools.
