Florian Stephens serves as Senior Lecturer in Digital Media and Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Visual Effects programme at the London School of Film, Media and Design, University of West London. With 14 years of higher education experience since 2001—including teaching roles at the Slade School of Art (UCL) and other central London universities—he specializes in aligning classroom instruction with real-world industry standards across undergraduate and postgraduate art, design, and media programmes.
His research and professional practice centers on 3D Animation and Digital Media, with deep expertise in Visual Effects for Film and Broadcast Media. Drawing from extensive commercial experience as a 3D artist, he integrates industry workflows into curriculum design, having produced content for BBC (CBBC/BBC4/UKTV/BBC1), SKY, National Geographic, MTV, and Channel 4, alongside commercial projects for L'Oréal, Kelly Hoppen, Rimmel London, and Barclays. This practitioner perspective shapes his educational philosophy emphasizing technical excellence and professional readiness.
As Course Leader, Stephens oversees the BA (Hons) Visual Effects programme while teaching across multiple courses including BSc (Hons) Visual Effects (with/without Foundation Year) and BA (Hons) Film, Screen and Content Production (with/without Foundation Year). His leadership focuses on developing industry-responsive curricula that bridge academic theory with commercial production standards in visual effects, animation, and digital media.
