Florian Pethig is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the University of Mannheim Business School. Since 2021 he has held this position while continuing his post-doctoral research and teaching activities.
Education:
- 2013–2016: M.Sc. in Business Information Systems (Business Informatics), University of Mannheim — semester abroad at Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá.
- 2010–2013: B.Sc. in International Business Information Technology, Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Mannheim — semester abroad at University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Research interests centre on the societal impact of information technology, data analytics, and technology acceptance. His work explores how digital systems shape human behaviour, the ethical dimensions of algorithmic decision-making, and factors influencing the adoption of enterprise and governmental technologies.
Across his recent publications, Dr Pethig investigates user engagement in online communities, bias in human–algorithm interaction, reproducibility standards in empirical research, and the socio-psychological barriers to the uptake of digital government services.

Teaching & supervision: he regularly teaches Agile Software Product Management and Design (IS 629), Management of Enterprise Systems (IS 540), and the Seminar Trends in Enterprise Systems (IS 742). He welcomes bachelor’s and master’s thesis supervision by appointment.
