Prof. Dr. Dr. Florian Mormann is a Professor and Head of the Cognitive and Clinical Neurophysiology Workgroup at the University Hospital Bonn’s Epileptology Department. His research focuses on neurobiological mechanisms underlying perception, memory, and epilepsy. He employs advanced techniques like intracranial EEG (iEEG), fMRI, and single-neuron recordings to study neuronal activity in the human brain. Key areas include understanding how sensory experiences are encoded into episodic memory and the pathophysiological basis of epileptic seizures. Mormann leads a multidisciplinary team investigating high-frequency oscillations, microseizures, and network interactions. He has secured significant grants from the Volkswagen Foundation, DFG, and BMBF for projects in neural processing and disease mechanisms.
His workgroup includes PhD students and postdocs exploring topics like odor representation, numerical cognition, and sleep-related neuronal coordination. Collaborations span institutions like the University of Jerusalem and the SFB 1089 consortium. Mormann’s publications in Nature, Nature Neuroscience, and Current Biology highlight his contributions to cognitive and clinical neurophysiology.
