معرفی
Florian Hofmann is a Researcher at the Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks. His work focuses on advancing geochronologic techniques using noble gas geochemistry and cosmogenic nuclides to study tectonic deformation, volcanic processes, soil formation, and paleoclimate reconstruction.
- Ph.D. in Geology, California Institute of Technology (2019)
- M.Sc. in Geological Sciences, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (2013)
- B.Sc. in Geosciences, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (2011)
His research integrates:
- 40Ar/39Ar and (U-Th)/He dating for tectonic studies on faults like the San Andreas and Denali
- Cosmogenic nuclide dating to establish glacial chronologies in the Alpine Foreland
- MicroCT screening to enhance precision in geochronologic measurements
- Cosmogenic 3He and (U-Th)/He methods applied to iron-oxides and magnetite in paleosol analysis
Current projects include extending thermochronometric techniques to new mineral phases and improving dating reliability through advanced sample characterization. He leads the Geochronology Laboratory at UAF.
Collaborations with University of Munich faculty and prior postdoctoral appointments at Caltech, USC, and LMU highlight his interdisciplinary network. His publications emphasize methodological innovation in geochemical dating systems.
