Florian Freudenberg serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy at Goethe University Frankfurt's Faculty of Medicine. His research group investigates molecular mechanisms underlying mental disorders through cross-species and cross-disorder approaches, maintaining close collaborations with clinicians to translate findings into patient applications.
His primary research focuses on pathophysiological mechanisms in mental disorders using behavioral, molecular, and histological analyses across cell cultures, mouse models, and human biosamples. Key methodologies include viral gene transfer, omics data analysis, maternal immune activation models, and stress-based paradigms to identify translational pathways for novel treatments.
Recent publications (2016-2023) demonstrate consistent investigation of genetic factors like NOS1AP and RBFOX1 in mental disorders, with emphasis on synaptic proteome perturbations and endophenotypes. This work bridges neuroscience, psychiatry, and molecular biology to address the 50-year translational gap in mental health therapeutics.
Dr. Freudenberg leads a collaborative research team employing diverse techniques including mouse behavior analysis, genetic modeling, qPCR, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry. His group actively partners with psychiatrists, pharmacologists, and psychologists to ensure clinical relevance of basic neuroscience discoveries.
