Dr. Florence van Hunsel is a researcher at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering, affiliated with the PharmacoTherapy, Epidemiology and Economics department within the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy. Her work focuses on pharmacovigilance, drug safety, and adverse event monitoring with particular emphasis on vaccines, herbal medicines, and pregnancy-related drug exposures.
Key research interests include improving pharmacovigilance methodologies, regulatory science, and global health initiatives in pharmacovigilance. She collaborates with international stakeholders to establish best practices for herbal medicine safety and has contributed to projects like the ConcePTION consortium addressing pregnancy pharmacovigilance data quality.
Recent studies investigate vaccine safety in pregnant populations, postmenopausal bleeding post-vaccination, and the impact of regulatory actions on dietary supplement safety. Her work demonstrates expertise in cohort studies, adverse event follow-up protocols, and leveraging electronic health records for drug safety signals.
Dr. van Hunsel actively engages in global health initiatives, particularly in Africa, to enhance pharmacovigilance capacity in lower-middle income countries. Her research bridges clinical practice, regulatory policy, and public health outcomes through rigorous epidemiological methods.
