Flavio Romano is an Associate Professor at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, affiliated with the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems and the Research Institute for Complexity. He also holds an office at the European Center for Living Technology (ECLT). His research focuses on theoretical and computational approaches to soft and hard materials, particularly in DNA nanotechnology, self-assembly, and complex systems.
His research interests span condensed matter physics, soft matter physics, computational modeling of nucleic acids, and complex systems analysis. He employs advanced simulation techniques such as coarse-grained modeling (e.g., oxDNA) to study DNA origami, self-assembling nanostructures, and molecular interactions in biological and synthetic systems.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend in designing programmable nanomaterials using DNA, inverse design strategies, and computational-experimental integration. His work bridges theoretical physics with practical applications in nanotechnology and biomedicine, particularly in nucleic acid delivery and nanostructure engineering.
