Dr. Flavio Geisshuesler is the Khyentse Foundation Macready Senior Lecturer in Tibetan Buddhism at The University of Sydney. He holds PhDs from the University of Bern and the University of Virginia. His research focuses on Indo-Tibetan Buddhism, particularly Dzogchen teachings, and explores meditation's role in navigating individual and collective crises through interdisciplinary lenses. He is a member of The Vere Gordon Childe Centre. Flavio's work bridges academic research with practical applications for modern challenges like AI disruption and cultural transformation, leveraging executive credentials including an HEC Paris MBA (2025) and mindfulness training (Berkeley).
Research interests include Tibetan contemplative practices (e.g., tögal), Ernesto de Martino's crisis theory, continental philosophy, and applying ancient wisdom to contemporary contexts. He teaches courses such as ASNS1201 and ASNS2627. Current projects address leadership in algorithmic environments and organizational change using Buddhist frameworks.
Publications span books like Tibetan Sky-Gazing Meditation (2024) and journal articles analyzing Great Perfection Buddhism and de Martino's legacy. His interdisciplinary approach integrates history, philosophy, cognitive science, and political science to explore cultural transformation mechanisms.
