Dr Firuza Melville holds a PhD in Persian Literature, Art, and Islamic Studies from St Petersburg University (Russia). She transitioned from an Associate Professor role there to Oxford University's Faculty of Oriental Studies, where she taught Persian literature and served as a Fellow, Tutor, Supervisor, and Director of Studies at Wadham College. Additionally, she curated the Ferdawsi Library and Persian manuscript collection. Since 2010, she has been the Iran Heritage Foundation Research Fellow at Pembroke College, Cambridge. Since 2013, she directs the Cambridge Shahnameh Centre for Persian Studies and serves as AMES Director of Studies across multiple colleges including Pembroke, Peterhouse, and Corpus Christi.
Her research focuses on medieval Persian art, Persian literature, contemporary Iranian art, Russian cultural influences in Central Asia and the Caucasus, and 19th-century Russo-Persian diplomatic history. Her work bridges historical and modern cultural studies, emphasizing manuscript preservation and cross-cultural exchanges.
