Dr Fiona Wilkinson is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Life Sciences, Manchester Metropolitan University, and an Honorary Reader at the University of Manchester. She serves as Deputy Head of the Faculty Research Degrees Committee, Theme Lead for Cardiovascular Science, and Co-chair of the Athena SWAN committee for Women in Science. Her research focuses on vascular pathologies, autoimmune diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders, with expertise in gene therapy and cell trafficking mechanisms.

Her research areas include atherosclerosis, vascular calcification, diabetes, lupus, and neurodegenerative lysosomal storage disorders, with therapeutic approaches spanning drug, gene, and cell therapies. She investigates cell trafficking and signaling post-hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Fiona supervises postgraduate students in the STP Clinical Science, MSc Biomedical Science, and DClinSci programs. She has served as an external examiner for intercalated BSc programs at Leeds University and is an expert reviewer for Action Medical Research, Medical Research Council, British Heart Foundation, and Kidney Research UK. Her professional memberships include the European Vascular Biology Organisation, British Society of Gene and Cell Therapy, British Society for Cardiovascular Research, and British Atherosclerosis Society.
