Fiona Wallis is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Coordinator for the BA (Hons) Dance programme at the University of Chichester, where she also serves as a Link Tutor for the FD Dance Teaching in the Private Sector and Exchange Tutor. She holds academic affiliations within the University of Chichester Conservatoire. Her qualifications include a 1st class honours degree in Dance in Society from the University of Surrey, an MA in Dance (Distinction) from the University of Chichester, a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and Training from the University of Greenwich, and is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance (ARAD).
Her research focuses on Ballet as a Somatic practice, exploring its application for contemporary dancers in training. She emphasizes technical foundation, body awareness, and safe movement practices. Fiona teaches practical and theoretical modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including Dance Technique (Ballet), contextual modules blending theory and practice, and employability-focused courses. She advocates for dancers to become thinking, articulate professionals aware of their career potential.
Awarded the Valerie Briginshaw Prize for Dance Writing and Academic Excellence, Fiona’s scholarly work bridges historical and contemporary dance practices. Her article From 'The Green Table' to 'The Refugees' examines choreographic journeys between texts, reflecting her engagement with dance history and performance analysis.
