استاد · Host plant resistance to aphids and nematodes
University of Arkansas Fayettevilleمعرفی
Fiona Goggin is a Professor in the Department of Entomology & Plant Pathology at the University of Arkansas, part of the College of Agriculture. She holds dual roles as Director of Experiment Station (DREX) and faculty member. Her research focuses on plant defense mechanisms against herbivores like aphids and nematodes, particularly investigating fatty acid metabolism, ROS signaling, and plant elicitor peptides. She has held academic positions since 2001, advancing from Assistant to Full Professor.
Education includes a B.S. in Plant Science from Cornell University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis. Her work bridges molecular biology with agricultural applications, with over 60 peer-reviewed publications since 1998. Awards include the Golden Tusk Award (2020) for graduate mentoring and ESA Recognition (2014).
Key research areas include: (1) lipid metabolism's role in aphid resistance, (2) singlet oxygen signaling pathways, (3) plant elicitor peptides for pest control. Current projects explore tomato and soybean defenses using Arabidopsis as a model. Teaching includes advanced courses on Insect Physiology and Molecular Biology.
Her lab uses high-throughput phenotyping and genomic approaches to study plant-insect interactions, with implications for crop improvement. Notable findings include FAD7-mediated aphid resistance and Mi gene pleiotropy affecting biocontrol agents.
