Filippo Sbrana is an Associate Professor of Economic History at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, affiliated with the Department of International Human and Social Sciences (SUSI), where he also serves as Research Delegate. He holds a national scientific qualification as a full professor in Economic History and is an Associate Researcher at the Institute of Mediterranean History of the National Research Council (ISEM-CNR) and the international research project 'Deindustrialization and the politics of our time (DEPOT)', funded by SSHRC. He is a member of the teaching staff of the PhD program in 'Frontiers Sciences in Sustainability, Diplomacy, and International Cooperation' and serves on the scientific committees of multiple journals and book series.
His research centers on the North-South divide in Italy, deindustrialization, banking and finance, public economic intervention, foreign trade, and interest representation. He investigates the interconnections between economic phenomena and political and social dynamics, with a focus on key figures such as Guido Carli and Pasquale Saraceno. His current work addresses the 'northern question', differentiated autonomy, economic inequalities, and the international projection of the Italian economy.
His recent scholarly output shows a strong trend in analyzing regional disparities, constitutional reforms, and historical economic policies in Italy. Articles from 2020 to 2024 reflect deep engagement with institutional economics, contemporary Italian history, and political economy, particularly around autonomy legislation, post-war reconstruction, and labor-business relations.
