Filipa Paes is a Retained Lecturer in Law at Jesus College and a Lecturer in Law at St. Hilda’s College and Hertford College, University of Oxford. She is a DPhil Candidate in Jurisprudence at Hertford College, supervised by Professor Timothy Endicott. Her research focuses on law and language, legal interpretation, the rule of law, and legal epistemology, with an emphasis on arbitrariness in judicial decision-making and ambiguity in language.
- Teaching: Jurisprudence tutorials at multiple colleges
- Research Groups: Co-convenes the Oxford Jurisprudence Discussion Group (2023-2025) and is a founding member of The Collective of Women in Legal Philosophy
- Assists Professor David Enoch in research
Her 2025 publication in the Georgetown Journal of Law & Public Policy explores juridical bivalence and the rule of law, reflecting her engagement with conceptual analysis and legal philosophy. Awards include recognition for academic excellence during her undergraduate studies at Kent Law School.
