Ferran Portella Carbó

Dr. Ferran Portella Carbó is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), a position he has held since April 2023. Previously, he served as Associate Professor (interim) from September 2019 to April 2023 and as Visiting Professor from September 2018 to August 2019 at the same institution. Before joining UIB, he was a Senior Research Associate at the SARChi in Industrial Development, College of Business and Economics, University of Johannesburg, and a Senior Lecturer at the School of Economics and Econometrics at the same university.

Portella Carbó's research focuses on the intersection of economic policy, international trade, and structural economic change. His work examines how global economic integration affects national economies, with particular attention to the Eurozone, tourism economies, and environmental sustainability. He employs sophisticated input-output modeling techniques to analyze complex economic interdependencies across regions and sectors. His research bridges theoretical economic frameworks with empirical analysis of real-world economic phenomena, especially in the context of European integration and globalization.

His publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on applied economic analysis using input-output methodologies. Recent work examines tourism-led economic growth across business cycles, the economic and environmental impacts of decarbonization, and trade imbalances in the Eurozone.
