Fermín Ignacio Milagro Yoldi

Dr. Fermín Ignacio Milagro Yoldi is Research Professor (Profesional Investigador) at the University of Navarra, Faculty of Pharmacy and Nutrition, Department of Nutrition, Food Sciences and Physiology. He also holds appointments at the Center for Nutrition Research (CIN), IdiSNA and CIBERobn in Spain. He directs the NUPERMET research group on personalized nutrition and metabolic syndrome.

Research Interests

Dr. Milagro leads the Precision Nutrition line, integrating nutrigenetics, epigenetics, non-coding RNAs and gut microbiota to discover biomarkers for disease diagnosis, prognosis and individual dietary response. His group investigates how bioactive compounds, pre-, pro- and post-biotics modulate metabolism across in vitro, C. elegans, rodent and human models, with a primary focus on obesity and its comorbidities.

Recent work emphasizes the development of circulating microRNA panels and DNA-methylation signatures as minimally-invasive tools for personalized dietary treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and weight management.

Grants, Projects & Advising

He has participated in more than 30 competitive research projects, secured substantial national and EU funding, and supervised 16 doctoral theses to completion. His group actively mentors postgraduate researchers in precision nutrition, omics technologies and translational metabolism studies.

He heads the NUPERMET (Nutrición Personalizada y Síndrome Metabólico) research group within the Center for Nutrition Research (CIN), equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for genomics, epigenomics, microbiome analysis and metabolic phenotyping.
