Professor Fergus Nicol is a faculty member at the The Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design, London Metropolitan University. He specializes in human thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and climate change adaptation. His work underpins the European comfort standard EN15251 through leadership of the EU SCATS project. He co-edits CIBSE Guide A and advises CIBSE on overheating in buildings.
Research focuses on the interplay between thermal comfort, energy use, and climate change impacts. He co-authored the One Million Climate Jobs pamphlet with the Campaign against Climate Change. Former roles include teaching at the Architectural Association (London) and the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana.
He leads the Network for Comfort and Energy Use in Buildings, organizing major conferences like 'Counting the Cost of Comfort in a Changing World' (2014). Current efforts include designing climate-resilient urban environments and building systems.
