Ferenc Fischer is a Professor at the University of Pécs, Faculty of Humanities, where he currently serves as Director of the Institute of History and President of the Doctoral Council. He has held prominent administrative roles including Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (2009, 2012) and Director of the Ibero American Centre (2001). Elected as an Ordinary Member of the Academy of Europe in the History & Archaeology section in 2016, he represents Hungarian scholarship in international academic circles.

Research Interests
Professor Fischer's research spans international relations history with emphasis on military and naval dimensions, particularly Germany's aerial, naval, and military engagements with Spain, Portugal, and Latin America (1885-1945). His work explores 19th-20th century geopolitical dynamics, Cold War history, and innovative methodologies in historical cartography for representing complex historical processes. His scholarship bridges European and Latin American historical narratives through interdisciplinary frameworks.

His leadership extended to the PhD and Habilitation Committee (2007-2009) and the Research Group "Hungary, Europe and Ibero-America" (2007-2011). Internationally, he contributed to CEISAL (European Council for Social Research on Latin America) as Executive Committee member (2007-2013), fostering transatlantic academic collaboration.
Research Infrastructure
He founded and directed the Ibero American Centre (2001) and led the Hungarian Academy of Sciences research group on Hungary-Europe-Ibero-America relations. His visiting professorships at UNAM (Mexico), Universidad Javeriana (Colombia), and University of Santiago de Chile (1999-2002) established enduring research networks across Latin America, complemented by collaborations with Universität Hamburg (1994).
