Professor Ferdinand Haider is a faculty member at the University of Augsburg, serving in the Institute of Physics within the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology. He leads the Chair of Experimental Physics I, focusing on advanced materials research with particular expertise in metallurgy and materials characterization.
His research interests span metastable metallic alloys, phase transformations under nonequilibrium conditions, mechanical amorphization, deformation of intermetallic phases, and extreme deformation processes. He has extensive expertise in friction stir welding, magnetic pulse welding, and high-resolution electron microscopy techniques including STEM, TEM, and SEM for analyzing metallic structures at the finest scales.
Professor Haider's publication record shows consistent research activity through 2023, with recent work focusing on aluminum-copper systems, Guinier-Preston zones, and friction stir welding technologies. His research demonstrates a strong connection between computational modeling and experimental validation, particularly in precipitation phenomena and phase transformations in metallic systems.
He has led or participated in several research projects including IP PERFECT, FAME, Erasmus Mundus, and a Volkswagen Foundation partnership program with the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore focused on diffuse interface models of phase transformations.
Professor Haider maintains active laboratory facilities for materials research at the University of Augsburg, with particular emphasis on advanced characterization techniques for metallic materials and welding processes.
