Fengzheng Gao

Dr. Fengzheng Gao is a Lecturer at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich, leading the Microalgae in Human Nutrition and Health R&D team. His research focuses on leveraging microalgae for addressing global micronutrient deficiencies, particularly iron-deficiency anemia. He holds dual PhDs in Bioprocess Engineering (Wageningen University, Netherlands) and Aquatic Product Processing (Ocean University of China).

Dr. Gao has secured grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the Foundation for the Encouragement of Nutrition Research in Switzerland, and international collaborations such as the Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein and EU Horizon 2020 projects. His work spans microalgae cultivation, bioactive compound extraction, and nutritional applications. Key research areas include fucoxanthin and docosahexaenoic acid production in Tisochrysis lutea, as well as sustainable biomass processing.
