معرفی
Prof. Femke Broere is a Professor of Translational Immunology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University (since 2018). She holds dual affiliations within the Department of Clinical Sciences (Internal Medicine of Companion Animals) and the Department of Biomolecular Health Sciences (Infectious Diseases & Immunology). Her research focuses on understanding and modulating immune responses to treat chronic inflammatory diseases in both humans and animals, with expertise in immunology, autoimmunity, mucosal immunity, and vaccines.
Education:
- Master's in Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University (2017)
- PhD in Medical Biology (2004), VU Amsterdam, focusing on regulatory T cells in oral tolerance
- Bachelor's in Medical Biology, University of Amsterdam (1995–1999)
Research Interests:
- Immunomodulatory therapies targeting chronic inflammation (e.g., arthritis, atopic dermatitis)
- Role of regulatory T cells and effector cells in immune homeostasis
- Development of vaccines and immunotherapeutics
- One Health approach integrating veterinary and biomedical research
Key Contributions: Broere’s work bridges fundamental and clinical research, emphasizing translational applications. Her lab investigates immune mechanisms in companion animals (e.g., canine atopic dermatitis) and explores therapies like tolerogenic dendritic cells and liposomal autoantigen conjugates. She collaborates with the Utrecht Molecular Immunology Hub and chairs the Translational Immunology group.
Awards:
- Innovation Voucher (2024)
Teaching & Service: Involved in veterinary medicine education (e.g., BSc and MSc programs) and serves on scientific societies (KNMvD, NVvI). Her research also addresses open science principles, advocating for public access to publicly funded discoveries.
