Felipe Moreira is a Visiting Professor at ENS de Lyon's Institute of Functional Genomics (IGFL) from August 2023 to August 2024. He is a public health technologist, head of the Entomology Laboratory, and coordinator of the postgraduate program in Biodiversity and Health at Brazil's Oswaldo Cruz Institute. His primary focus is systematic entomology, particularly phylogeny and taxonomy of aquatic/semi-aquatic bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera).
Dr. Moreira holds a PhD from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2014) under Jorge Luiz Nessimian. His research emphasizes Gerromorpha and Nepomorpha insects, with contributions to describing new taxa and analyzing biodiversity conservation challenges in Brazil.
During his visit to Lyon, he collaborates with Dr. Abderrahman Khila’s team on three key projects: phylogenetic studies of Rhagovelia, molecular experimental techniques training, and academic engagement through seminars. His work bridges systematic entomology with evolutionary genomics, aiming to establish experimental models for future studies in Brazil.
His publications span molecular phylogenetics, taxonomic descriptions, and conservation biology, reflecting expertise in arthropod systematics and adaptive evolution.
