Felicitas Gunter is a Doctoral Researcher in the Organismic Botany and Mycology group at the Institute of Plant Sciences and Microbiology, University of Hamburg, situated within the Department of Biology under the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences.
Her research centers on evolutionary biology and population genetics, with specific focus on the sand termite Psammotermes allocerus and fairy circles in arid ecosystems. She investigates phylogeographic patterns of ecosystem-engineering termites in southern Africa, examining how these species shape ecological dynamics through phylogenetic relationships and biogeographical distributions.
Based at the Carl von Linné House (Room 2,530), Gunter conducts field and laboratory research to unravel the mechanisms linking termite behavior to landscape formation, contributing to broader understanding of arid-land ecology and evolutionary adaptation.
