Dr. Fei Peng is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Clemson University, affiliated with the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. He holds an adjunct role in the Clemson University School of Health Research. His education includes a Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology (2009) and M.S./B.S. degrees from Tsinghua University (2005/2000).
His research focuses on advanced ceramic manufacturing, machine learning-driven material design, and energy conversion systems. Key areas include laser-based additive manufacturing, microstructure prediction via AI, and high-temperature material properties. He leads federal-funded projects from agencies like DoE, AFOSR, NASA, and NIH.
Dr. Peng has authored over 60 peer-reviewed papers, including high-impact works on AI-guided laser sintering and ceramic sensors. He serves as secretary-elect of the American Ceramic Society’s Basic Science Division. His lab integrates cutting-edge facilities like laser processing systems and high-temperature characterization tools.
Notable awards include the Gilbert Robinson Memorial Fellowship and recognition for top materials science papers. His team has produced numerous graduates, with active research on smart sensors, protonic ceramic fuel cells, and sustainable manufacturing.
