Federico Pacchioni holds the Sebastian Paul and Marybelle Musco Chair in Italian at Chapman University, where he serves as Founding Director of the Ferrucci Institute for Italian Experience and Research and teaches in the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts and University Honors Program. He directed the Italian Studies program from 2012–2023, expanding curricular offerings and establishing new endowments.

His research explores Italian cinema through intermedial aesthetics, focusing on puppetry traditions in film, literature, and digital media. He investigates artistic collaboration in Fellini’s work, glocalism in cultural production, and pedagogical innovation in foreign language learning.
His publications reveal trends in transmedia storytelling (60+ works including 8 books), with awards like the 2024 Nancy Staub Prize for puppetry scholarship. Notable books include Inspiring Fellini (2014) and The Image of the Puppet (2022).
