Federico Martin Ibanez is an Associate Professor at Skoltech, leading research in the Smart Grid Laboratory and Power Electronics group. He earned his engineering degree from the Technical National University (UTN-FRBA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2008, followed by a PhD in power electronics at CEIT, a research center of the University of Navarra in San Sebastián, Spain, completed in 2012. His expertise spans 20 years in electronic design, focusing on lab-based projects such as gas sensors, impedance meters, and electrolyzers.
His research centers on power electronics converters and microgrid control strategies. He has contributed to multiple European, national, and regional projects, developing DC/DC and DC/AC converters for energy storage and electric vehicle applications (1–100 kW). He also investigates hybrid energy storage systems, demand response solutions, and cybersecurity challenges in microgrids.
Current projects include grid-forming/grid-following inverters, multi-port DC/DC converters, resonant converters, and balancing circuits. His work bridges academic and applied research in smart grids and energy storage technologies.
