Federica Sulas

Dr. Federica Sulas is an archaeologist specializing in geoarchaeology and landscape historical ecology in sub-Saharan Africa. She is affiliated with the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research at the University of Cambridge and contributes to the Cambridge Global Food Security interdisciplinary research center.

• Teaching/research experience across UK, Spain, Italy, South Africa, and Denmark

Research Focus:
Her work explores ancient resource practices, particularly water and food management systems, through fieldwork in Ethiopia, Tanzania, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Sardinia. Current projects include:

• Long-term water security and ecosystem services at Great Zimbabwe
• Urban transition resource landscapes in Zanzibar
• Iron Age landscapes in SW Zambia
