Feargal Fitzpatrick

Feargal Fitzpatrick is Professor and Head of Media at the National College of Art and Design's School of Fine Art. His research examines photographic representations of Irish landscapes through postcolonial, nationalist, and capitalist frameworks.

Using critical theory perspectives from Marx, Benjamin, and Bhabha, he analyzes how 19th-century photography shaped cultural memory and territorial politics. His work reveals photography's role in constructing national identity during periods of colonial resistance.

He has organized international symposia on photography and politics, including ACS sessions on dissident photography. His exhibitions include national touring shows exploring surface representation and resolution in visual media.
