Fawad Ahmad is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), affiliated with the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Southern California (2022) and a BSc from the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar (2014), where he received prestigious awards including the Presidential Medal and University Gold Medal.
His research focuses on mobile systems, computer vision, and robotics, with applications in autonomous driving, 3D reconstruction using drones, and cybersecurity in cooperative autonomy. Notable projects include AeroTraj (drone-based LiDAR trajectory planning), UbiPose (AR pose tracking), and CarMap (3D feature maps for automobiles).
Dr. Ahmad teaches graduate courses such as CSCI-631 (Computer Vision) and CSCI-739 (Artificial Intelligence for Computer Scientists). He has been awarded the NSF CRII Award (2024) and actively contributes to academic service, including TPC roles at ACM MobiSys, SenSys, and NSDI.
His current research group includes PhD students Kaleem Nawaz Khan and Ali Khalid, with recent publications in top venues like ACM MobiCom, UbiComp, and NSDI. He emphasizes collaboration with motivated students across PhD/Master’s/undergraduate levels, emphasizing technical rigor and innovation.
