Prof. Dr. Fatmagül Yur is a distinguished Professor at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University's Fethiye Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. With a veterinary medicine background and doctorate in biochemistry, she has established herself as a leading researcher in nutritional biochemistry and oxidative stress mechanisms.
Her research interests primarily focus on oxidative stress, fluorosis, diabetes complications, and the protective effects of antioxidants including vitamins C and E, lycopene, and glutathione. She has extensively studied how these compounds affect DNA damage, renal function, and biochemical parameters in various animal models of disease.
Prof. Yur's publication record shows a clear trajectory of research evolution from veterinary medicine applications toward human nutritional science. Her recent work (2021-2024) has expanded into geriatric nutrition, eating behaviors, and the Mediterranean diet's impact on women's health, demonstrating her ability to adapt her biochemical expertise to contemporary public health concerns.
Her laboratory work frequently employs in vitro cell models (particularly renal cell lines) and animal studies to investigate how environmental toxins like fluoride interact with nutritional factors. She has made significant contributions to understanding the biochemical mechanisms of fluorosis, a condition affecting livestock in certain regions of Turkey.
- Extensive research on oxidative DNA damage and antioxidant systems
- Multiple studies on fluorosis and its biochemical markers
- Investigations into diabetes complications and protective compounds
- Recent expansion into human nutritional studies and eating behaviors
Prof. Yur actively collaborates with researchers across multiple disciplines and has served as a reviewer for numerous international journals including Biological Trace Element Research, Pharmacognosy Magazine, and Journal of Food and Nutrition Research, demonstrating her standing in the international scientific community.
