Fatemeh Ahmadpoor

Fatemeh Ahmadpoor is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Her research focuses on entropy-driven mechanics of nanomaterials, biological membranes, and 2D materials, with applications in biophysics and materials science. She leads two National Science Foundation-funded projects: 'Adhesion and Self-Assembly of Flexible Nanofilaments on Biological Membranes' (Co-PI) and 'CAREER: Fundamentals of Entropy-Driven Mechanics of Flexible Nanostructures' (PI).

Her work integrates statistical mechanics, molecular dynamics, and continuum mechanics to study phenomena such as entropic forces, flexoelectricity, and thermal fluctuations in confined systems. Key contributions include modeling musical perception mechanisms using physics-based frameworks and analyzing interactions between 2D materials and cellular membranes. Notably, her team's research on musical perception earned the 2024 PNAS Cozzarelli Prize for outstanding scientific achievement.
