Farhana Irshad

Farhana Irshad is a Lecturer in Education, Recruitment, and Retention at the School of Education, St Mary's University. She serves as the recruitment lead for all teaching routes, overseeing recruitment events and initiatives. Concurrently, she is a part-time PhD Candidate and guest lecturer on Digital Cultures and Paradox of Horror modules.

Research Interests: Her work explores the evolution of horror/true crime genres in digital streaming contexts, focusing on digital detectives in true crime spaces, binge-watching behaviors, narrative transportation, platform mobility, and audience engagement. Recent publications include analysis of witchcraft archetypes in streaming content like Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Publications & Presentations: Authored chapters in academic volumes such as Critiquing Violent Crime in the Media (2021) and presented at the 2022 Investigating True Crime and the Media Conference.

Labs/Teams: Engaged with media studies and cultural analysis research groups within the School of Education.
