Fang Jingyun is a prominent ecologist holding dual roles as President of Yunnan University and Cheung Kong Chair Professor at Peking University. He leads the Division of Sciences and Department of Ecology at Peking University. His research focuses on plant diversity, global change ecology, and ecosystem processes, with significant contributions to vegetation remote sensing and carbon cycling.
Education: B.Sc. in Forest Science from Anhui Agriculture College (1982), B.A. in Ecology from Shinshu University (1986), and Ph.D. in Biology from Osaka City University (1989).
Research achievements include over 490 publications with an h-index of 97, 490 million RMB in grants, and mentorship of 49 PhD students. Awards include the Whittaker Distinguished Ecologist Award (2019), Ma Shijun Ecology Achievement Award (2019), and membership in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2005).
He has held leadership roles such as Director of the Institute of Botany (2010–2016) and Vice Dean of Peking University’s Division of Sciences (2016–2021).
