Fan Hsiu-Yu is a Research Fellow at the European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan (Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen) and a JSD candidate at UC Berkeley School of Law. Her research focuses on immigration law, international law, comparative legal studies, labor law, and citizenship policies across Taiwan, the US, and China.
- Education: LL.B. (National Taiwan University), LL.M. (UC Berkeley School of Law), current JSD candidate (UC Berkeley).
- Professional Experience: Practiced law in Taiwan, licensed in Taiwan and New York; research assistant to Professor Alex Wang (China law) at Berkeley; graduate instructor in East Asian Languages and Cultures.
Her dissertation, advised by Professor Leti Volpp, examines three dimensions of immigration lawmaking: US immigrant worker movements, Taiwanese immigrant spouse courtroom activities, and evolving citizenship policies in Taiwan/US/China. She bridges grassroots activism, legal frameworks, and transnational policy dynamics.
