Dr. Faizan Ahmad is an Associate Professor of Research in Chemical Engineering at Teesside University, leading the 'Hydrogen and Decarbonisation Technologies' research group within the Centre for Sustainable Engineering. He holds a PhD from Universiti Teknologi Petronas and has extensive international experience across Pakistan, Malaysia, Korea, and Germany. His roles include Course Leader for the MSc Chemical Engineering program, teaching modules like Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Process Design.
Education: PhD (Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, 2013), MSc (Chemical and Process Engineering, Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, 2007), BSc (Chemical Engineering, University of the Punjab, 2004).
Research Interests: Membrane separation, clean energy (hydrogen technologies), carbon capture, process simulation, and decarbonisation. He has authored over 35 articles in high-impact journals and holds a patent on membrane system parameters prediction. His work has been presented at 25+ international conferences, earning two gold and one silver medal.
Funded Projects: Includes Ofgem SIF Discovery (PI, £163k), ERDF Tees Valley Hydrogen Innovation (£1.75M Co-I), and multiple industry collaborations. Awards include two gold and one silver medal for research contributions.
Advising & Grants: Supervised 3 PhD students and 50+ MSc projects. Active in enterprise initiatives, engaging SMEs in hydrogen economy projects through ERDF funding. Collaborates widely on low-carbon hydrogen production and carbon capture technologies.
Labs & Teams: Heads the Hydrogen and Decarbonisation Technologies group, focusing on membrane-based separations, industrial carbon capture, and sustainable energy systems.
