Dr Faith Taylor is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography at King's College London, affiliated with the Department of Geography within the School of Global Affairs. Her research focuses on spatial and statistical modeling of natural hazards, particularly in urban areas of the Global South. She holds a PhD from King's College London, where her thesis addressed landslide event inventories and road impact modeling. Taylor has held postdoctoral roles at King's and was a GIS Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth. She co-founded Intrepid Explorers to promote field-based research and King’s Humanitarian Mappers to map vulnerable regions. Her work emphasizes low-cost spatial methods, open data, and interdisciplinary approaches to disaster risk reduction.
Her research interests include GIS applications, multi-hazard risk assessment, urban resilience, and climate change adaptation. Taylor has led projects funded by NERC and the Lloyd's Register Foundation, such as the 'Expressive Mapping of Resilient Futures' and 'Improving Household Preparedness in Multi-Hazard Contexts.' Her contributions span peer-reviewed articles on topics like Kathmandu Valley hazards, Nairobi land use classification, and Kibera's accessibility during the pandemic. She teaches courses on geographical inquiry, natural hazards, and environmental science.
Taylor collaborates internationally, addressing challenges in disaster risk management and resilience policy. Her work bridges academia and practice, aiming to enhance preparedness and inclusive urban planning in low-resource settings.
