Faith E. Beasley is a Professor of French Cultural Studies at Dartmouth College, an Ivy League institution in the US, where she has taught since 1986. Her research specializes in early modern French culture, particularly the works of women writers and France's pre-colonial relationship with India. She holds a PhD from Princeton University (1986), preceded by an MA and BA from Princeton and Mount Holyoke College.
Her scholarship focuses on recovering marginalized voices in French literary history, analyzing how women's cultural contributions were erased from historical records. Key research areas include salon culture, Franco-Indian exchanges, and the interplay between literature and collective memory.
Recent works include the 2024 book *Quand Versailles rencontre le Taj Mahal* (translating her 2018 work) and the 2023 chapter on Molière's portrayal of salons. She frequently speaks on topics like 17th-century cultural diplomacy and feminist literary criticism, including a 2022 talk at Cambridge University and a 2020 keynote at Aix-Marseille University.
Current projects include a biography of Marguerite de La Sablière and a translation of François Bernier's Indian travelogues. Her work bridges literary analysis with historical contextualization, emphasizing how cultural narratives shape national identities.
