Faisal Qureshi

Faisal Qureshi, M.D., is a Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he serves as Director of the Bariatric Surgical Center for children. He is board certified in surgery, surgical critical care, and pediatric surgery. His clinical focus includes pediatric surgical care at Children’s Medical Center Dallas and Plano, with specialized expertise in bariatric surgery for adolescents. Dr. Qureshi completed his medical degree at Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, followed by multiple research fellowships at prestigious institutions including Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Before joining UT Southwestern in 2015, he held leadership roles at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Qureshi’s research interests span pediatric surgical outcomes, bariatric surgery efficacy in adolescents, trauma care optimization, and ECMO utilization in neonates. He has authored nearly 50 peer-reviewed articles and nine book chapters, with a focus on metabolic surgery, pediatric critical care, and surgical innovation. He regularly lectures globally on pediatric surgery topics and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Surgery. His leadership extends to advancing evidence-based practices in pediatric trauma and obesity management.

Notably, Dr. Qureshi has been recognized in D Magazine’s Best Doctors list (2018–2019) for his clinical expertise. His work integrates clinical care with translational research, addressing disparities in healthcare access and improving surgical outcomes for children with complex conditions such as traumatic brain injury, congenital anomalies, and severe obesity.
