Fabio Marcuzzi is an Associate Professor in Numerical Analysis (SSD 01/A5, formerly MAT/08) at the Department of Mathematics, University of Padua. He holds a PhD in Computational Mathematics from the University of Padua (2000) and has maintained strong connections between academic research and industrial applications throughout his career.
His research interests span computational inverse problems, data assimilation, ill-posedness regularization, learning algorithms for operator networks, mathematical systems modeling from data, and numerical methods for signals and systems. Recent work emphasizes GPU computing applications and the integration of machine learning with traditional numerical methods for real-time simulation.
Marcuzzi has secured numerous research grants from national and international sources, including MURST, MIUR, and industry partners like Electrolux. He founded NumLab (Laboratorio per le Applicazioni Numeriche) in 2006 and a university spin-off in 2008. His work bridges theoretical numerical analysis with practical industrial applications, particularly in appliance design and optimization.
- Member of Technet Alliance (since 2009)
- European patent for washing machine technology (1998)
As an educator, Marcuzzi has supervised 61 thesis students across mathematics and engineering disciplines. He teaches Computational Inverse Problems at the doctoral level and has developed innovative educational resources including a Scientific Computing in Python MOOC. His supervision record shows a progression from traditional numerical methods to cutting-edge research in machine learning integration and GPU acceleration.
Marcuzzi maintains active international collaborations, particularly with institutions in France (University of Lille) and has served as a reviewer for IEEE Control Systems Society conferences and international journals. His career demonstrates a consistent trajectory from industrial R&D to academic leadership in computational mathematics.
