Fabio Candotto Carniel is a PartTime Researcher in General Botany (BIO/01) at the University of Trieste within the Department of Life Sciences (DSV). He has been actively involved in the 2D-Nano-Mad-Plants PRIN 2020 project and the EU's Graphene Flagship initiative.
- Education:
- MSc in Biodiversity and Biomonitoring of Terrestrial Environments (2009), University of Trieste
- PhD in General Botany (2014), University of Trieste
- Post-doctoral research (2014-2016) at University of Innsbruck
His research focuses on lichen desiccation tolerance mechanisms, anthropogenic pollutant effects on symbiotic organisms, and ecotoxicology of 2D-nanomaterials. He has developed experimental protocols for lichen co-culture systems and graphene-fungal interaction studies.
Recent publications highlight his work on graphene oxide impacts on plant reproduction, fungal biodegradation of nanomaterials, and genetic responses in lichen photobionts under stress. These contributions align with DSV's research strands in environmental biology.
He serves as co-tutor for PhD students Giada Caorsi and Enrico Boccato, and participates in multiple departmental boards including the Doctoral Studies Board and Teaching Staff Board.
