Fabienne Bartsch

Dr. Fabienne Bartsch is a research associate and academic leader at the German Sport University Cologne, affiliated with the Institute of Sociology and Gender Research and the Department of Diversity Research. She served as Acting Professor for Sport and Society at the University of Osnabrück from April to September 2024 and has been Deputy Head of the Diversity Research Department since December 2023. She is also a member of the Speakers' Council of the Commission 'Gender and Diversity Research' within the German Association for Sport Science since 2016.

Her research focuses on diversity, inclusion, and discrimination in sport, particularly examining classism, racism, and sexism through postcolonial and intersectional lenses. Her work bridges sociology, gender studies, and sport pedagogy, with strong implications for educational policy and teacher training.

Her recent publications and projects, such as ComᵉNet 4 and Move4Health, emphasize digitalization, diversity, and inclusion in school sports. She teaches in teacher education programs, offering seminars on diversity competence, violence prevention, and qualitative research methods. Her 68 publications reflect a consistent engagement with equity and social justice in sport.

Dr. Bartsch actively supervises research, participates in peer review, and contributes to academic committees. She is a key member of the research network around Professor Bettina Rulofs, with whom she has co-authored 50 publications and collaborated on 9 projects. She also works closely with researchers in psychology and sports pedagogy, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of her work.
