Fabian Prasser

Fabian Prasser is the new Professor of Medical Informatics at both the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH). His work focuses on data integration and data protection in patient care and medical research, aiming to advance digital medicine through privacy-compliant methodologies. He emphasizes the importance of translating research findings into clinical practice while ensuring patient trust through robust data anonymization techniques.

Education:

• Studied computer science with a minor in theoretical medicine at the Technical University of Munich.
• Completed an interdisciplinary doctorate at the Institute for Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology, and the Chair of Database Systems.
• Habilitation thesis focused on data protection.

Research Interests: Modern methods of data integration for translational medicine, privacy-compliant health data utilization, anonymization software development, standardization of medical data, and addressing challenges in digital medicine. His team works on creating practical solutions for healthcare and research while advancing theoretical frameworks for data protection.

Scientific Awards:

• Johann Peter Süßmilch Medal (2017) from the German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology.

Professional Roles: Previously served as technical coordinator of the 'Data Integration for Future Medicine (DIFUTURE)' consortium within Germany's Medical Informatics Initiative. Currently leads efforts to expand digital medicine expertise at Charité and BIH, focusing on merging electronic patient records, imaging data, genome sequencing, and research systems under strict data protection standards.
