Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatma Esen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Geography, Bingöl University, affiliated with the Energy, Environment and Natural Disaster Studies Application and Research Center. She holds a BSc (2002), MSc (2006), and PhD (2014) in Geography from Firat University. Her research focuses on GIS applications, geomorphological analysis, climatology, and sustainable land use planning, with emphasis on natural disasters and regional development.

Research Interests: Fatma Esen’s work integrates GIS and statistical methods to analyze climate patterns, land-use dynamics, and disaster susceptibility. She explores geomorphological influences on urban development and agricultural practices, particularly in Bingöl and neighboring regions. Recent studies include flood risk assessment, landslide susceptibility modeling, and sustainable afforestation strategies.
Key Projects: She leads Bingöl GEO-SMART 2030 (2024–ongoing), focusing on smart city strategies aligned with the region’s geography. She also coordinates projects like 'Women in Apiculture' (2019–2022) and studies Gümüşkaya Cave’s paleoclimatic significance (TÜBİTAK-funded, ongoing).
Grants/Advising: Fatma Esen has secured funding from TÜBİTAK and Bingöl University. Her research teams collaborate on environmental and disaster-related projects, with outputs published in environmental and geographical journals. She actively moderates panels on regional geography and women’s roles in STEM.
